Brenda Frekey had one dream as a little girl; to own an ice cream shop. Over 30 years ago she started “Frekey’s Dairy Freeze” on Rt.28 in Chichester with her husband Ed, serving Weeks’ (which later became Crowley’s and then Hood) soft serve flavors: vanilla, chocolate & twist
They built their business literally from the ground up and started a place where families could afford frozen treats no matter how big or small.
With three kids and a lifetime of hardwork, they were ready to be snowbirds and move to Florida. In 1989, they sold their house with the little ice cream shop and left for Springhill. For 5 years the 97 Suncook Valley Rd property was owned by a family before they too were ready to move on to their own adventures, when they sold it to Brenda’s middle child – Carol Frekey. She and her husband Jon moved in to Carol’s childhood home with their two dobermans Luther and Jessie.
Carol stuck to the simplicity of the three soft serve flavors as well as sundaes, frappes, flurries and slushies. In 2012 Frekey’s Dairy Freeze starting carrying hard scoop ice cream by Gifford’s in Maine to add more variety for her loyal customers. We typically have about 45 flavors at a time – it’s hard to find one you won’t like!
In October of 2017 Carol bought the once Summer Freeze (which was Whoopie Twist beforehand) and thus a second Frekey’s location was born. Since April 23, 2018 when we first opened up we’ve been serving smiles and sweet treats for the Concord area in addition to our home base in Chichester. As of 2020, the decision was made to close the staple Chichester location after a long and joyous legacy.
We continue to keep our prices low and affordable so you don’t have to break the bank to treat your family to ice cream!
